Directions to Carpenter Camps
on Lake Clear, NY
Take 87 N (Adirondack Northway to Exit 30, (104.13 miles).
Go left off Exit 30 (0.22 miles). Route 73 will take you
through Keene Valley and then through the Town of Keene.
Towards the end of Keene you will come to a fork in the road
with a restaurant in front of you that is the temporarily shut
down “The Elm Tree Inn” or “Monty’s”.
Stay on Route 73, which is left of the restaurant. After
ascending a decent size hill, you will approach the Van
Hovenburg Olympic Area for the Biathlon, Cross-Country
Skiing, Bobsled and the Luge. The impressive site of the ski
jump will be on you left; you will need to veer to the left
onto a road called Old Military Road (Route 35) (25.89)
miles. This is a short cut that will bypass Lake Placid. Old
Military Road takes you over to Route 86. Go left onto Route
86 through the Town of Saranac Lake; you will pass Lake
Colby on your left and the hospital on your right. Continue
on Route 86 to Route 186 (15.27 miles). Donnelly’s Ice Cream
will be on your left just before a flashing light where you will
make your left turn onto Route 186
Follow Route 186 into Lake Clear to Route 30 North (1.16
miles). Turn right onto Route 30 North, go just over 2 miles
and start to look for the sign which says Carpenter Road on
your left. You will see it just after the road bends to the
right. Turn left into the entrance and follow the Carpenter signs to the camps. Hope you will have a safe trip and the
